SORENSEN PARK LIBRARY
The predecessor building was the County’s smallest branch library, approximately 1,000 sf, and 50 years old. It’s replacement is 10,600 sf with all the accoutrements of a modern community facility.
In addition to the traditional library function, there is a community room that is shared with the library and local groups. With its park site, the facility is also designed to work in concert with an existing County Park and Rec building, creating a synergy of programs and a savings of dollars.
This Library was mandated to achieve a LEED Silver certification, but with cooperation among the Library Department, the County District Supervisor, and the design and construction team, the project was certified as a LEED Gold facility.
The result is a thoughtfully produced community building that respects its context, is sensitive to the environment, and supports an important local resource.
