In response to its context, the demands of the program, the need for phasing, and perennial concern for light, acoustics, and energy conservation, the school evolved into a small "village" composed of discreet clusters of buildings and courtyards.

Building mass is further reduced by the use of covered walkways which also enlarge the courtyards and act as privacy screens for the spaces they serve.
